Creativity, Collaboration, and Faith: Year 3’s Ramadan Preparations!

The past two weeks have been incredibly busy for Blueberry and Cranberry Tree classes! As part of the whole-school competition, the children have been working tirelessly, often giving up their own free time to create the most spectacular Ramadan door decorations. It has been a brilliant way to combine Art and RE learning.

This project has been a wonderful opportunity to develop new skills. The children have shown impressive teamwork and negotiation skills as they decided on themes together, and their fine motor skills have been put to the test with intricate cutting, folding, and pattern making.

Alongside the creativity, there has been deep learning taking place. We have explored the significance of Ramadan, covering key knowledge and skills such as:

  • The Lunar Calendar: Understanding why the moon and stars are such important symbols for the month.

  • Self-Discipline: How fasting teaches patience and empathy for those less fortunate.

  • Personal Growth: We discussed how to better ourselves through kindness and honesty, and how to carry these values forward long after the month ends.

  • Collaboration: The children learnt how to share a vision and delegate tasks, so everyone had a role in the display.

  • Building Knowledge: Throughout our creative activities, the children have been engaged in meaningful discussions about Ramadan, its significance and how it impacts our daily lives as well as building our character. The children have also been sharing experiences with one another.

  • Design & Creativity: They explored using contrasting colours and geometric patterns to make their artwork stand out.
  • The Meaning of Ramadan: We discussed why this month is the holiest in the Islamic calendar.
  • Better Ourselves: We explored the concept of good deeds and self-improvement. The children came up with beautiful examples of how they can improve their character—not just for now, but for the future too.

We are so proud of how they have combined their artistic talents with such mature reflection. We can’t wait to show you the final results!

Year 3 Team.
