Life Cycles Come to Life!

Growing Up and Life Cycles – Our Butterfly Adventure!
As part of our 'Growing Up and Life Cycles' topic, Reception have been learning all about the amazing life cycle of a butterfly.
To make our learning exciting, we welcomed some tiny caterpillars into our classroom, so the children could experience the life cycle first-hand. The children were fascinated from the very beginning and took great care of our special visitors.
Every day, the children made careful observations, looking closely to see if they could spot any changes. They loved watching the caterpillars grow bigger and bigger as they ate and prepared for the next stage of their life cycle.

After a few weeks, the caterpillars transformed into chrysalises. We carefully transferred them into a net and waited patiently for the butterflies to emerge.
Our excitement grew each day, and one Friday afternoon, our first butterfly finally emerged! The children watched quietly and carefully as it unfolded its wings. We made sure our butterflies had everything they needed by providing glucose water and slices of tangerine for them to enjoy.
Once all of our butterflies had hatched, it was time to say goodbye. We released them into the outdoors, where they could begin their new life.

🦋 What an incredible learning experience for our Reception children!
