Creating Sand Sculptures

This week in Reception, we have been enjoying the wonderful story The Seahorse by Ann Turnbull.
We started the week by listening carefully to the story and making predictions about what might happen next. We used our imaginations to talk about what we could see, hear, and feel at the seaside, and watched a few videos to help bring the seaside to life.
We had a wonderful time exploring sand later in the week, testing out the differences between dry and wet sand. The children quickly noticed that dry sand cannot be moulded, but adding a little water changes everything!

After watching a video of some incredible sand artists, we decided to challenge ourselves to make our very own sculptures. At first, it was quite tricky to get the sand to stay in place. But with lots of perseverance and plenty of practice, most of the children successfully sculpted their own turtles!

We were so proud of their determination and the fantastic sculptures they created!
